If they're following the case at all, they will simply cite it as an example of how sexually depraved the world is. And they'll do so without even a hint of irony.

Were You Ever SHOCKED That Someone Got Appointed As An Elder?
by minimus ini remember some men getting appointed and wondering what the hell were they thinking???.
likewise when i came to someone being appointed a presiding overeer or whatever they are called now!

I can think of one, in particular.
He was a guy I grew up with. Him and his brother were constantly in trouble as teenagers, even doing time in juvy. Even when he got older he never totally outgrew his rebellious streak. He was irregular, and attended meetings sporadically. I know he straightened up his act, and eventually started pioneering. Still, it came as a bit of a shock when I heard he got appointed as an elder. I also heard he stepped down a few years back, due to a personality conflict with the presiding overseer.

KISS - Knights In Satan's Service
by Funchback ingrowing up as a jw, i was told that kiss stood for knights in satan's system (or service).. i just did a google search and learned it's not true.
it's actually not an acronym for anything.. to be honest, apparently it's not just the jws who believe it means something related to satan.. http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden/kiss.asp.
one day paul [stanley] and peter [criss] and i were driving around, brainstorming for new names.

I remember when this went around back in the 80's. I was never allowed to have a KISS record because of it.
Never mind that it was an unsubstantiated urban legend, and that they couldn't name one song that made a single mention of Satan. Once it was repeated from the platform, like everything else it became true to them.

Some prayers really annoy me
by stillin ini realize that prayer is a really personal thing, but representing a group in prayer has become so full of cliche's that i just want to vomit sometimes.
co week almost every prayer has the phrase "special week of activity" in it.. then there's "please look after the sick and afflicted.".
not so much anymore, "please bless this food and the hands that prepared it.".

We had a brother in my old congregation who would implement the word "father" in his prayer as often as he could. At least once per sentence. It was really strange and annoying.
I also hated those 5 minute long closing prayers at the end of the conventions. Those after the closing speaker already went over by a good 15 minutes.

How can angels be sexually attracted to women?
by Island Man inthe nephilim account in genesis is utterly ridiculous when you consider that angels are sex-less beings and would therefore lack sex-drive and romantic attraction.
think of how difficult it is for humans with a sex drive to be sexually attracted to animals.
now take away that sex drive and it becomes literally impossible.

How? The same way an angel can develop a lust for power as Satan did.
A better question is, how can perfectly created spirit beings deviate so far from God's intended moral code without it being some sort of major flaw in his creation?

Uninvited...again...
by Anders Andersen inso a week or so ago we received an invitation for a jw friend's wedding anniversary party in the mail.it was addressed to 'the andersen family' (and not just mrs. andersen & baby andersen) which was pleasant of course, but not a huge surprise given the type of person who said friend is.. however, i already prepared myself to be uninvited after all.
some time ago, there was a congregation farewell party/get-together.to my surprise, i was invited too!
an elder specifically came over to my house to tell me.then some weeks later, he visited again, being terribly sorry but the invitation was revoked as the congregation got concerned over my possible presence.. with that debacle in mind, i wasn't surprised to receive a message from my friend 'hey are you at home?

Same thing happened to me and my wife a couple months back. My brother and his now wife decided to throw an engagement party. We were directly invited by him, face-to-face.
When the week of the party came around, we texted my mom for details (time and place). That's when we were told we were no longer invited. No explanation was given, but we both knew. They wanted it to be a JW-only affair.

Brought my non-JW wife to Kingdom Hall for a wedding
by keyser soze inmy brother got remarried to his ex-wife over the weekend.
they had been married for 15 years, but divorced in 2011. they decided to give it another try, because they have 3 kids together, and the dating pool is very thin for jws in their 30's and 40's.
we didn't want to attend, but since i was invited, and they were kind enough to attend our wedding, we decided to suck it up.. the most interesting part was the way my wife responded to the whole ordeal.

but were the grounds for the original divorce Scriptural?
Without going into too much detail, yes.

The most interesting part was the way my wife responded to the whole ordeal. There's nothing like gauging the reaction of an outsider to reinforce how cultish it all was.
The first thing was the love-bombing. She didn't mind that so much, except for one elder, who had been the PO when I attended. She said he gave off a "creepy" vibe. I told her to trust her instinct on that one.
She also found it amusing how many times the speaker used the phrase "Jehovah God" during the talk. It must have been 10 to 20 times.
She was most put off by the whole subjection of women aspect that was repeated throughout the talk. I'll never forget the 'WTF' look she gave me when the speaker referred to wives as "precious possessions".

Three congregations dissolved and a kingdom hall sold within a 50 mile radius in my area...
by UNCONDITIONAL LOVE inhas anyone else heard of these situations with congregations and halls in your area?
i thought the ground breaking mandatory pledge a little while ago was to keep up with "immense" growth?
how soon they forget... looks really bleak for the future of the wbats, the jw gravy train seems to be coming to a slow and agonizing yet inevitable stop.

Happened to the neighboring congregation of where I used to attend. That congregation was split between ours and their neighbors to the south, depending on where the person lived. The reason I heard was that they couldn't get enough qualified men to serve as elders, though I have my doubts.
